2024 Frances Peter Award Recipient – Rebecca McMackin

The Frances Peters Award

Created in 2003 to mark the 85th anniversary of TÌìÃÀÓ°Ôº, this award was named for Frances Peters, the distinguished civic activist who founded the Club in 1918. It is bestowed upon an individual whose leadership had an impact on the beautification of our city.

Rebecca McMackin

Rebecca McMackin is a horticulturist and garden designer, and the Arboretum Curator at Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx, where she cared for one of the leading tree collections in New York City. Rebecca has also been a Harvard Loeb Fellow, studying ecological design, the history of native plant movements, and science communication. She is dedicated to bringing beauty and biodiversity to our cities. Her new garden for the Brooklyn Museum shows that ecological gardens can thrive in even the busiest public spaces. As former Director of Horticulture of Brooklyn Bridge Park, Rebecca managed 85 acres of parkland with an eye toward habitat creation for birds, butterflies, and soil microorganisms.
